Broker to Equity Research
Long story short -
I graduated in 2010 from a non-ivy league university with mediocre grades (3.0/3.1). I've been pressing to get into a Summer Analyst Internship/Junior Analyst position with small boutiques. Mainly have been networking extensively and have been on the phone with many analysts pitching to them that I'm hard working and have a lot of drive to learn the fundamentals of equities.
I'm taking my CFA Level 1 in June.
I got an offer from TradeKings (the online broker) to be employed as a broker-trainee (basically taking orders & studying for my Series 7).
I hope to come out this summer with the following things:
- CFA Level 1 passed
- Series 7 Certification
- Broker-Trainee position added to resume.
These things combined, would this give me a much better chance at breaking into equity research?
Every bit helps, so get every license and certification you can. A 3.0 won't take you out of the running, just compensate in everything else: know about the company, industry, etc...
People have gotten in with much worse credentials. Good luck!
