Business Career Options as a Canadian

Hi there,
Sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum, I'm fairly new to this website.
As the title mentions, I'm a Canadian attending the University of Western Ontario (will be in the Richard Ivey School of Business HBA program starting 3rd year)

As of now, I have been looking into becoming a Chartered Accountant (CA) after I graduate from university. However, after some careful consideration and some research, I feel as if the finance route would definitely be another option for me.

Maybe I am mistaken, but from doing some research online, I can see that Finance (more specifically investment banking, hedge funds, private equity etc.) is more prominent and "grande" in the US and is difficult to break into as a Canadian.

So my question is whether or not I have a chance to succeed in finance, whether in Canada or the US and if so, what my plan should be starting now in order to pursue such a career and increase my potential? Or should I continue my original plans of becoming a CA?
Also, I have also seen people go into accounting, go big4, possibly a CA designation and then switch into finance. Would this be a good idea?

Thank you for taking the time to read over the post, I am aware it is quite lengthy :)

Friend, you're an Ivey HBA now, you won't have any problem being an getting internships and jobs in investment banking, consulting and even PE firms like ONCAP, OMERS, CPP (or even still be an accountant if you desperately feel the need to be one) unless you're not a hard worker and you can't keep your marks solid. You don't go to University of Saskatchewan. Don't stress, enjoy.

That may seem like an oversimplification but it's not; I don't know what pre-Ivey work experience you had but if you have solid initiative OCR in the fall should land you some sort of decent internship, anywhere from boutique IBD/PWM to Toronto or NYC BB IBD. I can tell you are new to the whole douchey banker world but you'll get accustomed soon with all the business cart toting, Gordon Gekko quoting kids at your school. One way or another, if (high) finance is your dream it's well within your reach. Feel free to PM if you have questions.
