Buying $20k Bottles Of Champagne

According to the Guest of a Guest blog, not everyone is cutting back on spending in the recession. http://guestofaguest.com/nyc-nightlife/best-20k-i-ever-spent-the-gold-b…

Guest of A Guest:
An anonymous clubgoer bought this $20k bottle of Armand de Brignac champagne at Marquee last week!! Here is a picture of the bottle; it’s 6 liters and was the first of a limited edition of 30 to be sold in the US. The bottle is so big it’s covering the mysterious moneybags who bought it.

What are the odds this is some douche from the Street waxing off part of his bonus? Not very likely.

But considering the state of unemployment, budget cutbacks, and bonus reductions you've gotta give the buyer credit where it's due, this takes balls. Stupid, stupid balls. But I pose this question to you, if given the means to do so would you indulge in such a gratuitous purchase at a club for one night?

It would be epic!

You guys need to learn to live life. I (as an analyst) have spent several hundred dollars at a club. Waste of money? Maybe. Great time? Definetely.

Maybe this dude was celebrating a closing of some sort, or was a champagne enthusiast. Honestly there are people who make thousands of dollars a day just on the interest on thier investments (please dont say stupid shit like "oh we're in a recession")

I hope whoever bought the bottle logs on this forum so he can see the attention he is getting, which may be precisely why he spent 20k on models and bottles

Honestly, anyone who spends $20k on a bottle of champagne is either the dumbest person in the world or someone who could get robbed of hundreds of thousands of dollars and not notice.

Dear OP, Daltronator, I second feelings of the dude I quote. You have to be a serious dumbass to presuppose that the only people with money in the world, or even in the US of A, work on wall street.

Have you considered the possibility that some people simply inherit their wealth? I doubt that Paris Hilton (for lack of a better example) has stopped purchasing things or has had to alter her lifestyle because of the financial crisis (...unless she was Maddoxed...)

I personally wouldn't spend that much money on a bottle of champagne at a club. Maybe if it were for a special occasion, like something with your spouse or something if she really loved champagne, but outside of that I don't think so.

However, spending $500 at a club isn't that big of a deal.
