Buyside to Hedge funds

Just wondering whether it is impossible (not literally) to get into hedge funds/pe from buyside institutions (fidelity, pension funds, mutual funds, etc.)? What are some of the necessities for hedge funds like CFA, MBA and other certifications?
Thanks

It's certainly possible. A few things though: 1) Places like Fidelity have huge sales, compliance, back-office, etc corps and those aren't good feeders. You need to be in the actual investment-management (trading, research, PM) to make the switch.

2) Pension funds are often largely funds-of-funds. Exit ops to direct investing are difficult if you only have experience evaluating outside managers. More senior pension employees are coveted for asset-raising, though.
