Can Artificial Intelligence Cure the World of Stupidity?

Self explanatory title. Can AI cure the world of stupidity? I think incompetence is the bane of existence. Even when people vehemently disagree with me, I'm fine with that if they have a well articulated and logical argument. I hate it when people deny the truth and hard evidence.

I've been reading a LOT about AI and the potential it holds. I am not saying it will take over Terminator style and eliminate humankind. I don't want that. I want society to be more critical thinking, that's it. Can AI make that happen?

Yes, I am fully aware it is trite to ask an anonymous forum full of finance people about the potential of AI. I like hearing people's opinions and see if you can direct me to any more white papers I can read up on. Learning about this is my happy place.

Yes, but also that humans can integrate with AI and become better. They could be better, smarter, more critically thinking versions of a human.

Gotcha. A computer chip in your brain would be awesome but automation of menial jobs would have to be widespread or else there would be unrest among the masses (myself included). If everyone is smart and there is no differentiator between people, my guess is that it will result in strong authoritarian socialism because these newly smart people will be pissed if they have to do menial tasks and manual labor while equally smart people get to do the fun stuff. Our current system is a zero sum game that wouldn’t work if everyone is equally smart with the assistance of AI. Fuck if I know. Good post - curious to see what other people have to say.

I think once ASI is properly scaled, funded and profitable humans will have no choice but to become smarter or have no place in society. The phrase adapt or die is perfect for what you are talking about because similar to the trading pit where floor traders would yell and sometimes bet their life savings on stocks in the 90's& early 2000's it died once the computers became more advanced and only those who accepted this fate became successful whilst those denied or couldn't adapt were forced out of the business. It is another stage of human evolution that will allow further growth to potentially colonize mars ( elon musk has entered the chat ) or cure cancer. Just like the birth of the yuppie 80s culture on wall street and the silicon valley nerds of the 2010s, we will become cyberlords or whatever people will call it of the future.

Right now ANI and AGI add value to our lives by making us more connected and reducing repetitive tasks however the real and dangerous potential is when robots become smarter, quicker and more efficient than us (ASI on a deeper scale) . Once that day comes, humanity will either have to bow down to them or evolve into the mixture of human flesh and robot brain in order to be as good as them.

It is impossible to slow down growth in AI and we need to stop dreaming about the good ole days but instead look towards a future that could be extremely dark and hollow or prosperous.

Don't think AI can do that mate - problem isn't with AI's capabilities, but rather with the stupidity of the stupid - there will always be a huge proportion of dumb people who are argumentative, will reject good advice, and consistently draw wrong conclusions from basic data, come up with non-existent issues.

Just need to look around the world today to see these examples...

I agree with you that there are a disturbingly large amount of people who are really, really dumb. My question was with the advent of neuralink and others, along with AI eating away some jobs (admittedly not many for now, but I think this will change)- will the dumb masses be forced to become smarter or get left behind? Or do you think we will become some WallE-esque type of useless beings?

I don't think this is a self explanatory title. Could AI have generated a better title and a more specific introduction that would lead to a meaningful discussion out of thin air? Yes, but that would have been it's only job and even a simple job as this would have to be a seriously complex model, which as far as I know does not yet exist oday.

Machine learning and AI are very good at solving specific problems and even there we're reaching our limits with ever persistent overfitting or simply not reaching the required model complexity.Predicting markets and self-driving cars are a good example for this.

Good point, title wasn't the best.

My point wasn't with today's technology. I'm thinking about the near, mid, and long term future. Are you sure we are reaching the limits? I'm curious to read about that. My understanding is we are nowhere near the limits of the level of sophistication this can reach. If you have data supporting the contrary let me know.

I understand general AI is pretty far out (as far as we know), and that AI can do specific tasks. I see it a lot like a baby. You first teach a kid to say their first word, then they start saying basic sentences. Fast forward many years and they can write novels.
