Can foreign military veterans apply for "veteran" programs in IB?
I know this might be a stupid question but I really had to ask.
While I was searching up different positions just for the sake of looking up, I found out about these veterans programs where if you were part of the military you can apply.
Well, I know it might be obvious to assume that when banks say they are looking for veterans they might mostly mean US veterans, but is there a small possibility that veterans can also mean foreign veterans as well who have served not in the US military but elsewhere?
Or is this too stupid of a question...
sorry I had to ask... it just wasn't explicitly stated in any other threads or descriptions of the programs that I was looking into.
Thanks for reading this far!
Yeah, I've met a few Israeli army vets in my recruiting process/networking events at banks.
Israel has compulsory military service (3 years for men, 2 for woman) so every Israeli is technically a veteran (same goes for Scandinavian nations, South Korea, Singapore, etc). Veterans programs are targeted toward those who served in a professional army, not to those who did compulsory military service.
Also, US companies get tons of benefits from hiring American vets so it make sense that they would want to focus their efforts on US citizens.
Not trying to say anything about whose better or what not. But does it make it less of a person to have served in the compulsory military service compared to a professional army?
I mean I take pride in the fact that I was able to serve and what not and I also realize it's different to have served because you had to and there are others who didn't need to go but went because they wanted to.
It's just me ranting but I served because I wanted to but not as an officer/NCO since that would require additional requirements so that is why I served as an Enlisted. Maybe I feel a bit uncomfortable in that people who served in the compulsory military service is taken a bit less seriously than those who have served in the professional army. :(
No, most banks explicitly say its US veteran. If they don't, I guess u could give it a shot, but don't expect much. Israelis are different. They get special treatment because world of finance(and politics, law, media) is dominated by Jewish people.
p.s. I have nothing against Jewish people, I actually love them. I'm just stating the fact and status quo.
I'm not sure when you went through the recruiting process, but I just double checked on GS and MS's sites. There is nothing that explicitly states US military only. I also met a dude who was in the Swedish military and he got recruited from Cornell through the vet outreach program.
Thanks for the info! I also double checked and saw nothing about explicit statements about only US military. Should I just give it a try? What do you think?
I hope not. If they do, they don't deserve the tax credit. That's like the African princes coming over to the US and getting Affirmative Action benefits.
