Can I bring wife on business trips?

I know travel is just part of the job when it comes to being a consultant. However, my wife is a housewife and I don't like the idea of just leaving her at home while I'm out constantly traveling for work. Is it possible for me to bring her on work trips, assuming I take care of her travel fare and lodging myself? I'm of course not talking about bringing her to jobs sites and meeting with clients, I'm just wondering if it's possible for her to stay at the hotel I'm staying in while working.

Thank you all for any input.

I don’t see why anyone would care/stop you from doing so unless you attempt to write off her expenses on the company’s dime or whatnot. As a side note, paying for her airfare, hotel and food on your own seems like it could get expensive really quick, though.

Some of our consultancy colleagues frequently bring their gf/wife on business engagements. Nobody has a problem with this and in many cases our spouses got to know each other and are really good friends.

You need to check the small print whether any/all of loyalty points or rewards systems may or may not be used for private travel (ie our consultancy allows points to be used for private travel or extension of travel as long as there is no other monetary reward, ie physical product purchase).

Yes! you can travel your business trip along with wife. It's a good thing. No of people go along with wife on the business trip.

I've done it before with my wife and our kid.

Employer usually doesn't worry, I dont need to tell the client and typically wouldnt volunteer the info unless we have good rapport.

It really depends on the type of trip, I'm not hauling the family around for less than a week.

If you have an Amex platinum corporate card, and your firm flies you full-fare business class, you can get free companion travel, and your firm wouldn't know any different. As a rule, your firm doesn't care so long as they're not paying extra for your spouse's travel or lodging. Even then, if you're senior enough, they'll pay for that too (on occasion, for long stays). I assume you're relatively junior, and you're asking this for the first time. Just ask your bosses. One of them must have a wife he isn't cheating on.
