Can someone give me some advice?
I truly have no idea what to do, so please bare with me. I have been accepted to a target school for August of 2008 for a one year program in economics/finance. I'm doing this because my undergrad school isn't strong enough to get me an analyst position at a ibank and to be quite honest, I'd like to pursue it for personal reasons as well.
I might have a summer internship lined up at a boutique bank for June to August 2008. But what do you guys suggest I do from NOW until my summer internship? It is my understanding that most analyst contracts are 2 years, so that's out of the question.
Any ideas/sugestions? Just get any regular job or what?
Given your background, I would honestly spend the next three months networking for a BB internship or a top MM firm for a summer internship. Let all the people you interviewed with for FT positions know your situation, and that you'll be reapplying to their banks for a summer position. Wouldn't put all your hopes on this boutique that you "might" have something lined up at. Summer experience will make you much more marketable when FT recruiting comes around.
If all else fails, travel.
8 months of traveling? I'd feel useless. I want full-time responsibilities right now, but I only want to pursue something that is mutually beneficial (ie: me not burning bridges by quitting to go finish my grad degree).
My school is having an IB get together type deal pretty soon. I think I'm going to make the 2000+ mile journey to do some networking.
Any other "jobs" that I can do from now until summer internship season rolls around that would be somewhat relevant?
