CFO.com has a weekly update on the deals including the financial and legal advisors, along with some deal info, depends on what you are looking for in terms of information. If it's a student searching then there is the dealbook on nytimes, there is even a spot on cnn business for each deal, and CFO or WSJ dealbook.
I'm just looking for a summary of last years M&A activity. Just basically showing how much was done in each industry and maybe some future trends. Any idea where I might find this
where do you go for M&A info? (Originally Posted: 09/04/2008)
I don't have any expensive subscriptions to databases that give M&A info such as term structures, regulatory information, who the lead advisers are etc.
Are there any free online databases that give M&A info? Where can you go follow M&A if you dont have Bloomberg or CapitalIQ?
Your best bet is press releases. Nine times out of ten, CapIQ doesn't have anything that isn't in a press release somewhere. In fact, I often have to go to the news wires to fill in holes in CapIQ.
If you are in school, check with your library to see if they have Nexis, or another news search database. Some school libraries even subscribe to CapIQ, Thomson OneBanker, or something similar.

Think of Bloomberg and CapIQ as more of an organizer of information rather than a source...its all publicly disclosed information that be be gleaned from filings and press releases
Is probably just as good as any of the news services except they won't get into the details (like implied multiples, stock change post-announcement, etc.).
There's a new online version floating around in beta version (the old one was not as good).
You can sign up for daily M&A newsletter through Reuters. Sends one email a day summarizing important M&A activity in market... Also dealbook's M&A section is pretty good.
There was a user on here who started a blog with a weekly run-down of M&As and IPOs. I can't remember the name offhand, but hopefully he'll come in and remind us. From what I could tell, he did a lot of the legwork in terms of tracking and summarizing deals.

I like http://dealbook.blogs.nytimes.com/
but there are a lot more, if you do a search.
Dealbook is great, but for more details (transaction details, banks involved and such) you should splurge for a membership to thedeal.com

What is the best website to stay current on the M&A market?
Ideally, this would be a site that just lists all recent transactions....Thanks.
look through wsj deal journal. try to read something on it every day ;)
If you read Dealbook/WSJ, Dealbreaker and Zero Hedge you should pretty adequately cover the bases.
dealbook is pretty solid for that.
dealbreaker
Is there any particular sections I should pay attention to on WSJ?
http://blogs.wsj.com/deals/
www.synergyweek.com
I just started it up there a few weeks back but have fuck all money to advertise so Im glad people ask these questions..
It provides a thorough look at the previous weeks M&A deals.
So far there's only been 3 deals this week, they along with Friday's deals will be posted tomorrow night at 9pm ET.
