Capital One vs Booz?
I am an international MBA graduating from a top school this year. Got two offers: one from Booz in my home country and the other from Capital One for Business Analytics Manager role. The compensation offered by Capital One is significantly lower (not least because of higher taxation in the US).
The only reason I am thinking about Capital One is because it's in the US (I was unable to get anything else in the US). However, I don't want to get into a shitty job just because it's in the US. They did not recruit on our campus, and I could not find anybody from my school who knows about this company. The people from Capital One I interviewed with seemed to be nice, and I liked their campus in Richmond.
But I am concerned that they do not have many top MBAs and do not recruit on campus. Also, frankly I don't have a clear idea about what exactly "analytics" managers do at Capital One and whether I would like the job (interviewers assured me that the job was just like management consulting, only better).
So what am I potentially getting myself into? Is Capital One a respectable place of work for an MBA? What are the exit opportunities? How would consulting firms in the US look at this job in my resume if I apply to them after one or two years at Capital One?
Depends, if Booz is government/public consulting, Cap One. If not, definitely Booz. Cap One analytics is mediocre and data driven, not finance driven.
Thank you for your comment. Booz does strategy/operations consulting and have a good presence in my country. What do you mean by mediocre and data-driven analytics? Consultants also say that their analyses are data driven
You are a pure data analyst at Cap One. Booz & Co. is solid and you'd have a much deeper impact. It would be a better resume builder.
As a Business Analyst, the analysis performed is both data driven and finance driven (It is pretty silly to assume otherwise). There are a ton of different areas that you could work in and the depth of analysis is driven by the analysts who perform the work. There are tons of ex-mckinsey / bain consultants that work at Capital One (especially at the executive level) and that is reflected in the internal consulting model.
I personally would say definately capital one over booz allen. booz allen is a govt teat sucker you are going down the wrong path working for those guys. Cap IQ market cap is 31 billion, booz allen is 1.7 billion.
Thank you. But my company is Booz & Company, not Booz Allen. Most of their work is for private businesses. Also, market cap is irrelevant because these companies are from different industries.
I've done a TON of research into consulting post-MBA and internal consulting at Capital One has never crossed my radar. Why don't you take the offer from Booz (a very well-respected consultancy) and look to transfer to a US office after a year or so?
