Hi everyone. Looking for some advice here: student from east coast working in an office on the west coast in the summer where I'll need a car. Is it worth it to ship my car cross country(around $1000) or do I bite the bullet and drive the whole way and pay for hotels during stops, which would definitely be ass having to drive around 12 hours per day.

Run the numbers.
See how much it would cost you in gas, hotel stays, tire wear, addition of miles (depreciation), sanity of driving that long, etc.
If you do plan on driving, I recommend you at least take a fun route once you get out towards the Rockies. Make some stops to see national parks and enjoy what you can.
I would highly recommend driving, it can be a blast and honestly it will probably be one of the best things you do

A road trip could be fun, smell the roses. like the above says, run the numbers, see what makes sense.
If you can spare the time - take it and drive across the country. Stop at some places you might not otherwise. Visit friends on the way. Not many times you can simply wander across the country, turning it into a vacation. Make it fun.
Otherwise just ship the damn thing.
100% drive. I've done the cross-country road trip 4 times now, absolutely love it. One time I had to do it in 5 days and had a few long drives, but if you take your time and limit yourself to 6-8 hour drive days you can see a lot of the country, and it really is incredible. Lots of great cultural places to visit and some of the nature in America is second to none. Go to Shenandoah, Churchill Downs, Chicago Institute of Art, the Gateway Arch, Zion, Grand Canyon, etc. Take a tour of Fallingwater in Pennsylvania or a riverboat down the Mississippi or the observation deck at the Willis Tower. If there is *anything* that you are interested in I guarantee you can find it on a roadtrip. Interested in architecture? Go to Columbus, Indiana and take a tour. Love food? Go to Kansas City, MO and get the best BBQ there is (don't @ me) Museums? Nature? Presidential Libraries? Casinos? You name it, we got it.
There is so much to see, I was driving through Kansas once and stopped in Abilene, Kansas (pop. 6,000 on a good day) because I saw a sign for Eisenhower's presidential library and I respect the hell out of Eisenhower. Right next to it is the Greyhound Racing Hall of Fame with a few rescue greyhounds just walking around. One of the coolest experiences of my life. Take the trip, you won't be able to when you're older.
When I read that you will have to drive 12 hours a day, I already feel bad about this. I think this is not a good idea.
Car transportation can cost you $ 500-700. Personally, this is what I paid when I transported my car to a neighboring state. I used closed transport and obviously overpaid, but I was calm. Of course, you decide how to be.
Drive - you will reflect life
Did this a bunch of times moving around, shipping for $1k is absolutely cheaper, but if you have the time make the drive and hit some sights along the way. Particularly some national parks. It’s not nearly as shitty as you’d expect if you’re not holding yourself to 12-15 hours per day for multiple days

Best friend was in this same situation - a few of us hopped in the car with him and made a week-long adventure out of it. Then we just flew back. Multiple drivers means you can cover more ground as well.
