Career Coaching And How It Has Helped You

Hello monkeys,

I recently applied for an Investment Banking Career Coaching program that has plenty of mentees giving glowing recommendations, charges purely based on results (i.e. fees are paid only when you get the job), and is actually a former IBanker, so you know that this is the real thing and not just a money-making scheme by some idiot with an unproven track record.

I was just wondering, have any of you monkeys had a career coach or mentor before? Someone to guide you in let's say, CV editing, mock interviews, technical knowledge, networking? Do you still maintain a relationship with them?

This scientific journal did some research on career counseling/coaching and guess what? Here were the results:

Results indicated a continual decrease of career indecision in the long-term and stabilization with regard to clients' satisfaction with life.

Career decision-making readiness increased only in the long-term for emotional and motivational variables.

So there is some strong evidence that career coaching (and I guess it can be extended to Investment Banking as well) is useful. I just wanted some personal experiences from you guys.

My thoughts: I think the most important thing that I can take away from this program is the connections. The coach has had hundreds of successful bankers in several front-office roles and this could prove to be invaluable in searching for my first summer internship!

LOL, just come to one of the WSO bar meetups. 15 minutes with UFOInsider or monty09 is worth $200 spent on career coaching.
erm, thank you, but monty's a much more knowlegeable person......

If IP says something is worth 200 bucks, its probably actually worth about 1000 so take that into consideration as well.

If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses - Henry Ford

Hey sorry for this if its obvious but, Im new to WSO. How do I find out about meetups? Is there a thread for that? Thanks...
Just pay attention to the front page of this site: when there's going to be a meetup, it's posted weeks in advance
