Career in ER - still worth it?
I am wondering if a career in ER (sell-side) is still worth it? Especially in London/Europe. As far as I know it's becoming less important (less budget) and MiFID II is hitting it pretty hard.
What's your suggestion for a prospective graduate? Move my focus to IBD (or S&T) instead?
Long term goal is L/S HF or AM.
Thanks.
Can't speak to Europe but in the U.S., yes it is still a well above average gig.

Hello,
I am currently looking for internships for this coming summer and have found a ER internship at a MM bank in the Midwest. From what I have read, their ER is well respected for their size and but I was wondering what sort of opportunities exist in ER and what kind of career advancement I could expect. I would like to end up in PE but am looking for alternatives that would make me appealing down the road if I am unable to get into a PE firm for an internship this summer.
Thanks in advance for your advice

Talk to alumni from your school. Look at LinkedIn and your schools alumni website. There must be someone working in ER or related fields.
If the market is closed does ER still work? (Originally Posted: 05/17/2015)
I'm interning at a BB this summer in ER and July 3rd is a market holiday. Do people in ER still work if the market is closed?
No, they shouldn't
Last summer all the other interns at my BB showed up for work on July 3rd, but we were all out by noon. Most senior people don't show up, but there is usually some work still to do and associates show up for the most part.
Yeah, but July 3rd last summer the market was open because the fourth was a Friday.
No one shows up whenever the market is closed (eg Memorial day coming up) unless they absolutely have to
Days off in ER are whenever the market is closed
