Career in government-related banks?

Hi everyone,

I have seen a lot of discussions on careers in IB, PE, HF, AM and such. Apparently, these industries get all the glamour and buzz in finance. Their rewards in terms of impact, respect and monetary result are among the reasons I am pursuing a career in finance.

How about careers in other areas of finance such as Central banks, World Bank, IMF, or Development Banks? I understand these banks have different objectives/nature from IB or AM. However, while looking at various career postings from Central banks and development banks, I spot a common theme which is that they love applicants with a few years of Investment banking or AM experience. A lot of the requirements in the qualifications/responsibilities seem to overlap with job postings from GS or JPM.

Are there reasons why those banks are not on the consensus' radar as a possible career move?
Any insight/opinion will be much appreciated.
