Career Shift (Big shop, Small or REIT)
Guys-
First time posting, but have been on the site a bit in the past. There is some great information here- so keep it up. For the last 4.5 years I have been working with one of the Top PM/GC firms in the nation, but looking to transition into the Development world as I find construction a bit one sided. My background is in Architecture; with a master in Project Management from one of Florida’s top schools- I am sure you can guess which one. I also did a Graduate minor/concentration in RE (Which I honestly found more interesting). Not sure if the concentration does much for me.
Anyway – to the meat of the question, two parts, so stay with me…
1.) What is the best way to score a RE Devp job at one of the top firms. All I am seeing right now are opportunities at small shops for lowrise multifamily. I have been doing Luxury residential, Hospitality/Resorts and Casinos for the last 5 years and don’t want to find myself bored of the project. (I know, the process is different from the developers side)
2.) Should I take a job at one of these small shops, or wait for a bigger developer or REIT?
Hopefully you stuck with me. If you have any advice I would like to hear it. Thanks,
