Career troubles
I was a SA at an ok bank in 2018 in London. Converted this into a full time offer for the year after, but this bank made about 20% of analysts redundant in December 2019, six months after starting, and I was part of it. I've been working at a fairly low-grade M&A place since January this year since I just needed a job fast, but I'm really struggling with a way to get back in. I have a high 2:1 from Oxbridge with a non-econ/finance undergrad and some language skills. I guess there are a couple of ways forward but it's hard seeing which is best :
-
2021 Finance Masters and apply for SA positions now - I've saved enough to fund it, but I guess I might be too experienced for SA positions and I don't really know if I'd be eligible with not being in uni / being FT now
-
Experienced hires - I think I've applied for 100+ positions in the past two months with 0 success, not even one interview
If anyone can offer any advice I'd be insanely grateful because I really don't know what to do and it's been weighing on me for a while
I’m not sure what it’s like in the UK but if you don’t network for an IB job in the US your odds are pretty high that you won’t get an interview. Did you network at all for the places you applied?
