Carmelo Anthony to the Thunder

Twelve hours after Carmelo Anthony expanded his trading wish list to include the Cavaliers and OKC, he was traded. In return for the trade with OKC, the Knicks will get the offensive center, Kanter, the shooter McDermott, and a second round draft pick. The Knicks definitely lost in this trade, though Melo arguably wasn't improving the Knicks in a holistic way. The Thunder is going to be exciting to watch with a big three consisting of Westbrook, Paul George, and Melo.

Carmelo Anthony's annual base salary went up from $24.5mm to $26.2mm, and he has a 15% trade kicker, which should amount to around $8mm. Do you think this is a fair value? I think Melo won this trade.

How do you think the Thunder will do? Will there be any synergy, or is Melo too much of a loan wolf? How will the Knicks do without Melo? I love Porzingis, but I doubt he can lead the team. Did this trade surprise you? I am so excited for the next season!

The Knicks won the trade. Melo was crap, so getting rid of him was good. Kanter is an above average center/powerforward, but Doug Mcdermott is deadweight. This is a start in the right direction for the Knicks.

I thought they lost, because the Knicks did not gain anything valuable, besides maybe a draft pick. McDermott is crap and Kanter can't play defense. Knicks needs a better defense and perimeter, not center.

It's not a great deal, but the trade still nets positive for the Knicks. Carmelo Anthony was a major detriment to the team's efficiency and took a huge portion of the team's salary. Statistics show that he was only decent in the 2013-14 season. The only reason why he gained popularity was because he accrued a massive amount of points by being an inefficient shooter by taking terrible shots and playing 38 minutes per game.

In the end, we gained a productive center (even if he has bad defense), a useless player, and we got rid of a burden to the Knicks. I bet the Knicks will do better this year.
