Carry for non-PMs
There has been some discussion on the topic in the past, but it would be great to refresh. Obviously this depends on fund size, amount of employees, seniority etc. So any/all data points are welcome.
It would be great to hear what type of carry people are getting at their current shops. How that has changed over time (whether based on individual / overall performance or experience).
Specifying fund size, experience level, and any other relevant information would always be helpful.
I swear carry isn't a thing in a hedge fund? You just get comp'd a bonus (largely driven from PnL performance) every year. The only "other" form of comp I've heard of is management company distributions as a partner. But that's it.
Agreed, there’s no carry in HFs your best bet is a % of your/ your team's P&L. Some very senior people will receive a 5% stake in the company but that's ownership.
Hmm that is not what was communicated to me. I know of others who have carry in their funds and it was communicated to me that I would "participate in the upside" at my current fund as well. Maybe that means P&L vs carry. Should find out soon..
