Cart before the horse; communities; families; politics

With the election coming up, and a bevy of other things going on (protests, BLM, RBG), I feel I'm seeing a lot more political posts from people on social media, and just political stuff in general.

It has me really thinking though, are people putting the cart before the horse, and trying to run before they can even crawl? What I mean is, as much effort as people put in trying to focus on national issues, I think it would be better if they focused on local issues.

All kinds of example out there, but, for example, does knowing how much Trump paid in taxes really affect anything in your life? Does it really matter what Kamala Harris's 23 and me says? I think if people took this energy and actually applied it to helping their local community or their family or one other person it would be closer to the world they want.
