Chances at Stern MBA? 760 GMAT
Do I have a shot?
GMAT: 760 GMAT
Education: Undergrad dual major in Finance and Econ from a top 40 private school (top 25 undergrad business program ranking), but only a 3.2 GPA (3.5 in Finance, 3.3 in Econ)
Work Experience: 4 years in corporate finance/Accounting from a public company with $50+ billion market cap. 3 promotions from temp to senior level. Responsibilities that exceed many of my peers at my level, but no management experience.
The other problem is that I'm just a typical white male candidate with nothing else that's particularly special and limited extracurricular activities (which I plan on improving over the next year before my app goes out).
Is it worth going for it or will I just get buried along with the other apps that don't particularly stand out? Any chance at Columbia? I'm also thinking about spending the next year or two getting a masters part-time and actually trying to keep a high GPA to prove that my habits have changed since undergrad.
you and i are in the same boat minus the GMAT (haven't taken mine yet). 3 years in corporate finance, non-URM male, with so-so ECs. very interested what people have to say...
what will you be doing an MS in?
My company will reimburse me for accounting related courses, I pass out of half of the pre-reqs and I can do the classwork in my sleep, so I think that would be my fastest/cheapest option. I just avoided accounting as an undergrad because its, well, incredibly boring. Plus, it gives me a fallback plan as a manager my current field.
I remember you created a topic a little while ago about studying for the GMATs. How's it coming along?

I was admitted to both Columbia and Stern. You have an excellent chance at both if you can explain why you want to go to business school clearly and logically in your essays. You don't have to have formal management roles to have "leadership experience". Read some sample essays to get ideas
