Changing major/ Doing second undergrad, Thinking whether IT or Econ

Hi folks,

I am currently enrolled in Biotech bachelor which I have completed
(I only need to find an internship and write a thesis)

However I found myself with (kind of still) unmarketable degree and big competition (with medics, pharmacists, chemists, biologists, biochemists and others) in the field, so I started to discover the alternative opportunities for me and think about other skills I possessed.

I discovered that consulting world would have fascinated me due to the fact that I adore process-oriented working, I am data-driven and I would love to give qualified advice what would later become my area of business.

However, the "rules" of getting into the top-tier consulting are not that transparent. There have been different opinions on how to break in, however, what McKinsey'ites agree on, is that they judge on the overall picture, rather than a certain level of GPA (or an overall sum of high school GPA + Bachelor + Master not exceeding a certain amount, (believe it or not, that's the real gossip here in Germany)) and some sort of additional projects.

This observation was based on what the people from McK told me on exhibitions.

So, back to the point and back to my question.

I was thinking about changing careers to something which
a) interests me,
b) is recession-proof,
c) would allow me to break into the MBB world one way or another (say, certain skills would allow me to get into a top company in the field or Tier-2, that might allow me to get into top MBA)
d) in case (c) would fail (sic!), it shall have certain perspectives of growth (i.e. either being able to grow up to a certain management level which deals with business strategies or finding a niche to become an expert in).

I was thinking about IT as it is international and if one shall succeed in getting into google or related, one would be decently rewarded on one side and one gets a programming skill on another side of the medal.

There are two programmes offered at my Technical University, which are either informatics or business informatics. The latter is some sort of combination of Econ+Software Engineering. I was however thinking about completing the first one and taking some Econ courses as electives (called "Free choice modules", one may take as much as one wishes here in Germany)

Ideally, getting a good programming skill, good (perhaps not excellent) grades, getting an internship from a market leader, participating in the geek club at the uni would make it into the consulting or banking internship at year 3 or 4, wouldn't it?

Or is the second undergrad/grad a No-Go, what do you think?

Thanks in advance,
Alex.
