Late night thoughts
Sometimes I just want to walk away from everything, move to a beautiful state, become a park ranger or something, get a travel trailer and never look back what do y’all think

This is my goal once I have $100mm in the bank
Yeah that's a totally realistic goal, Summer Associate
lol
Can be achieved, as Long as he never comes off his high
Savage. Just for fun, let's do a thought experiment.
Assuming a Summer Associate is 30 years old, and wants to retire at 60 (some time when you could still ramble around parks), you'd have to make $3mm a year for 30 years. But wait, you won't make that right out of business school - 3 years Associate, 3 years VP, 3-4 years Director, so it will take about 10 years to make MD assuming a rockstar. Then you have only 20 years left to make your $100mm or about $5mm a year, with not too much time for compound interest. It's not that this is absolutely impossible but you would have to be the 1% of the 1% going into banking.
That’s going to be one nice travel trailer
I concur, my end goal is to save up and retire in Montana or Wyoming and just be away from everything.
If it's really a viable option (e.g. you won't starve), why not? Who do you have to impress? I assume at the core, that's what's really stopping you. Others' expectations of you. Maybe that doesn't matter...your call...what's your intuition telling you?
You can always do that halfway, why not move to a large city in a state that you find beautiful and take a less stressful job, one where you can get out on the weekends and live that dream?
You sound burnt out, why not take a less stressful path and live a life you're happy with?
Somewhere between psychotic and iconic Somewhere between I want it and I got it Somewhere between I'm sober and I'm lifted Somewhere between a mistress and commitment
I think you should get a therapist, or some coke
My recent late night thought was a beauty. I was in the dead of sleep, having a dream that I am trying out for the New England Patriots. So it comes to final cuts and Coach Belichick asks us to do Oklahoma Drills (two guys on their back, head to head, me against the RB). He makes the point that if I make this tackle, I am going to make the roster. So now, I am pumped up (in my sleep mind you). He blows the whistle, and in the dead of sleep I spring off my bed (legit elevate multiple inches) and rotate off my bed. Well, only problem is, my night stand is next to me and I shatter multiple glasses/the table itself as I land on it. I cut my foot open but have a good laugh at how washed up I am.
Cheers,
Will
Thought about becoming a monk in Tibet or something.
More realistically, maybe opening coffee shop once I've had enough of finance.
lol seems fairly interesting.
I’ve been having the same thought for the past half a year hence my username. It’s especially bad these few weeks given all the shit going on.
I came across this channel today and thought it was really interesting, whether any of us ends up doing or not. https://www.youtube.com/user/nomadcapitalist
I know a guy who actually does what this guy does, literally just flys to islands like Saint Lucia brokering passports and citizenships for a living to wealthy people who want it. Sounds like the dream.
If you ever end up there we will get a yacht. Keep me updated!
You should volunteer as a fire lookout at a national park
It amazes me that some people still work and live in those lookout towers on top of mountains. I think doing that would be both scary and incredibly cool haha
You'll have plenty of time to contemplate the cosmic mysteries of life in solitude up on that little tower. Always seemed like something I'd like to do after inevitably burning out.
sometimes I like to pretend that I am not lonely and not a pathetic excuse for a man
Hey! I hope you are feeling better now. While I don't really know the difficulties and stress you are facing but I trust that you have the ability to navigate through this. But I would like to encourage you to evaluate other aspects of life such as family/friends/personal development etc. and don't be afraid to make a switch in career if its really needed. Don't be afraid of the perceived judgement from others of being weak if you are to step away from your current job for the better option. That said, I trust that you know yourself best and good luck to you!
Yeah, what I really want to do is work from home in a LCOL area. Would love to live in Salt Lake City and be able to have world class outdoor activities right in my backyard, and live comfortably on a sub 100k/yr income. I've never been much of a career person anyway, I just work so I have money to pay my bills and do fun things. Don't really care about much else.
I know a guy who does this. Really cool lifestyle. Co-owner of a small business, software engineer doing remote work, lives in a LCOL area, has tons of fun outdoors with his dogs and stuff.
