Chicago booth vs. London business school MiF - for NYC or London. need help!
Hi, ladies and gentlemen.
I am working on equity/macroeconomic research in East Asia.
Even though my work in current position is quite nice (in terms of salary and lifestyle), I want to move into US/UK financial market to expand my perspective. Thus, I applied business schools and got the admissions from Chicago booth and LBS master in finance.
Now I have to choose between two great schools - I know both schools are powerhouses internationally, but which school will be a better gateway for equity/macro research in sell/buyside in NYC or London?
I slightly prefer London to NYC (I've always wanted to live in European countries), and LBS Master in Finance program is shorter (1 year) and cheaper - those are reasons why I am inclined to LBS. Plus, my boss's close friend is a PM in London, so I think I can leverage this relationship to land an internship job...(just guessing). But Chicago is a great name in financial industry, and I think US financial market is far bigger than UK one. In addition, rent in Chicago is much cheaper than London. So (rent + cost of living) will partly offset higher tuition of 2 year MBA.
Realistically, however, because I do not have working visas for both countries, I guess LBS with 1 year and cheaper tuition is a safer bet if I come back to current position.
In my country, Chicago and LBS have similar reputation and alumni base - a notch below Wharton. Plus, I am going to go school with my wife and daughter, which city will be safer...or better to stay? Any input will be really helpful to me. Thank you for reading!
I would say go to the school in the market you want to work more in...if that's London, go to LBS. Just my opinion
If you want to end up in London, go to LBS. If you want to end up in the US, go to Booth. Simple as that.
