Chicago guys... Portillo's rumored to be bought out for $1B
This is going to be Piper's best M&A engagement of the year.
I know nothing about Berkshire Partners, but I sincerely hope they do not ruin the best tasting fast food franchise in the country. For those that don't know:
The Double Burger is one of the best you can get, definitely superior to a Five Guys, Shake Shack or anything else:
It's milkshakes are the tits:
And although pure beef lovers will disagree, the Combo is the best option on the menu IMO:
I also hope that Berkshire Partners does not mess with this establishment. Portillo's accounts for a significant portion of my fast food budget whenever I am back home.
forget the burger (although it is good) it is impossible to go there and not order a combo sandwich. Their chop salad is actually good too.
I don't remember the actual numbers, but when Portillo's was put up for sale there were some staggering numbers about it's sales and profitability vs. other restaurants and fast food places - the place is a cash cow.
Combo every time I head home as well, place is amazing. Hopefully this opens the door for more franchises because if I could go to Portillo's for lunch now.. rip.
I am debating between Portillos or Twin Peaks for lunch right now
are there any down south? Never heard of them
This should change that. Hopefully the quality stays the same.
I don't know what Portillo's is but that picture makes me want them on the east coast.
combo (dipped, mozz, hot peppers) for days... also - never talked about and highly underrated but the ribs are fantastic
I've probably been to Portillo's a few hundred times and never tried the ribs. It is nearly physically impossible for me to walk in there and not order the Combo.
Are their ribs smoked or just slathered in BBQ and baked? I'm a smoked ribs guy (I do it myself every so often) and a little snobby on ribs.
I'm from TX and a rib snob myself, and even though these are definitely baked they are still good enough to try once.
Split with a a few friends and only have a few and that way you don't have to count yourself out of a combo
I've never heard of this place but it looks amazing
I recently moved from LP to Streeterville and being able to walk to Portillos may be the best benefit.
On a hungover Sunday, you really can't beat a bacon burger and a combo dipped, mozz and hot peppers.
i'm fairly certain they are baked man - but the bbq sauce is strong to quite strong. i know how it is being unable to avoid ordering a combo - the sense of inevitability is daunting when entering portillos, but if you find the strength to order ribs you won't be disappointed
This is the first and last time I'll give a shit about who advised on a deal...out of jealousy for those tasty management presentations.
God damn, that would be the best management presentation I can think of, unless it was a strip club chain.
"Well, for due diligence purposes, I'm going to have to go eat at every location to ensure standardized quality."
Sign me the fuck up.
Chicago -- wins again.
When I interned at an institutional money manager, the analysts walked away with Xbox 360's and Kinects (before release). YUM brought a bunch of experimental menu items, some of which made their way into the Taco Bell breakfast menu.
If I had $1b, i'd definitely buy Portillo's. Great company.
