This is just idiotic- it is undoubtedly illogical to make a vast over generalization of a nation solely on basis one event that is relatively insignificant in contrast to the magnitude of your claim. Of course I found that video to be quite horrific and was infuriated at the apathetic state of the by passers, however it is certainly inaccurate to use this as an opportunity to make generalist claims about China. Shit like this happens quite often worldwide, particularly in developing nations, but you'd probably never hear about it as it's quite rare to capture such events on camera.

And no, I'm not Chinese. I'm not even Asian.

OP, there are good and bad folks everywhere. though i notice that people from communist societies tend to me a lot more guarded, dishonest and cynical*. friend's dad was a refined CS prof from eastern european country, but was also a total klepto for cheap candy and shit like that at the store. weird. communism makes you pretty beastly.

*sorry if i offended any communists out there**

Guarded? Well, yes. Growing up in a country where you had to pay attention to what you say, because the government most certainly has a file on you where they gather all your "dissident" quotes will do that to you

Dishonest and cynical? As opposed to...Americans? I find this idea hilariously wrong. No offense meant, but really...an American (I am assuming, here), generalizing another population and calling them "dishonest" is just hilarious.

EDIT, for a less snarky answer:

I grew up in Eastern Europe, so this hit a little bit close. I actually don't remember the pre-Berlin wall fall days, but I've been pestering my parents/grandparents with stories about them ever since.

And I find it really disheartening when I hear people generalizing about communists, but also when people assume that everyone in those countries was a communist. Dude, it was a regime. And while every regime has members of the ruling party, and other "helpers", not everyone living there belongs to its ideology. But they couldn't exactly go out and protest it, right? Tanks would roll over pretty quickly.

For most of my adult life, I've been finding it hilarious when people in western countries accuse the "left" in their countries of being communists. You have no idea what real communism is.

yeah it's what they call "prejudice." you see, i am pre-judging them.

my grandfather actually did do business in some communist countries before trade really opened up with them. the non-existence of an american-style court system and mega-cronyism enables people to completely fuck others over on deals, yes (e.g., you capitalize a construction project, and the local govt nationalizes it when it is 90% done -- goodbye money, it was nice knowing you). exempli gratia. if that isn't dishonest and cynical, i don't know what is.

welcome to america comrade. if you aren't a communist i wasn't talking about you.

I seem to remember the video of this girl almost dying in the waiting room of an american hospital and everyone ignoring her...or maybe it was a chinese hospital?

Damn, I should do a better work at gathering all the horrible things I stumble upon in one folder, so that I can look at it in the morning and start the day outraged...it would also provide me fuel for rants.

Well, I understand that you might think that the people are callous. But the government is evil for denying this happens.

That said, nothing here hasn't been done or said before. However, when will the Chinese government grow up?

Yeah, I guess based on an isolated case we can conclude that all people in EE are closet kleptos, starting with their government officials.

I was actually just going to post this. I'm no fan of China, but there are definitely parallels here.

Easy enough to find evidence of China's government being pretty messed up. No need to use this one instance of indifference.
Take a look at Abu Ghraib and make some comments about US and the US government: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abu_Ghraib_prison
Oh wow, really? This was the fucking hype of the decade. Wow, a bunch of guys got scared and simulated sex acts. Go to fucking jail in the USA and get actual sex acts happen to your ass.

These guys were Iraqi war criminals. What happened was against the rules, but to make it sound like American soldiers cut fingers off and raped people is bullshit. Dogs barked at guys and they were scared. Oh wow. Didn't realize prison was supposed to be gum drops and lollipops.

Um, I just realized FEW people read the actual article I posted. I wanted you guys to watch and read.
