Choose Equities or High Yield Credit?
I'm debating between two different opportunities at a large AM: equity analyst or high yield credit analyst. What's the better place to be -- or is it a matter of personality, upside vs. downside? Also feel like the equities space is competitive and under pressure from passive but not sure if that matters.
Ultimately this depends on your interests. With HY you'll likely end up looking at a variety of securities including equity (ex: when a company restructures).
I think HY gives you a more specialized skillset which will differentiate you from more generalists when applying for coveted roles. But again if you are a killer at whatever sector in equities you are covering, the sky is also the limit. It depends. Really is not black and white.
