Christmas 09

Historically, do American or European bankers work Christmases?

What was your experience, and what do you expect this Christmas given more froth in the markets? Is it safe to assume people really want to push deals through prior to Xmas or wait till after new years?

I know accountants have different stories because they have their auditing year-end, but what is it like for the deal-pitchers in the world of finance?

(No, I'm not a banker, but I know some who are and want to know)

Personally, I have not had to work on Xmas while in banking. In addition to it being a Holiday, I also take off the days around it to go on vacation. While they could still make me come in, it would require them to pay for my flights and what not, making it less likely for them to do so.

However, half of my group was required to come in one year to get a financing package through credit on Xmas eve through New Years.

Nothing is sacred, except perhaps your own wedding (even being a best man isn't good enough). Also, find out your banks policy on these days, some will require you be given extra vacation days for coming in on a paid holiday.
