Citi GTS vs Citi Risk
I need to decide whether to take Citi GTS or Citi (ICG) Risk management.
-Both are in NYC.
-Salary is not my immediate concern
-I ultimately want to work in IBD either through a lateral or B-school
-I do not know the final placement within each umbrella division (i.e market risk vs IBD risk etc.)
Which would offer the better chance at IBD?
Which would place better for B-school?
Does anyone know what the dress code is like? (always a suit? some days no tie?)
Which would offer a better long term career growth? i.e. retention within the firm
Thanks guys!
As always, NONE OF THIS would have happened without WSO!
"I ultimately want to work in IBD either through a lateral or B-school"
Then go with risk and even go for auditing or some kind of financial statement work so you can lateral to IBD.
Either is good for bschool.
Dress code: casual always for back office, never a tie
One of my roommates worked in Citi GTS. They're essentially a mix of IBD and commercial banking.
Risk involves less work, but if you want to work in IBD anyways, I would lean towards GTS.
On the trading floor, risk managers and salespeople wear ties (NO JACKETS); junior traders wear ties; senior traders often wear b-cazsh. Obviously, Citi GTS would probably be business formal.
My buddy did the opposite, IBD to GTS.
