Classes + BB SA
I will be SA at a BB (MS/JPM/Citi) in the Treasury Services Department doing MO/BO at a large regional office. I am a rising senior majoring in Accounting and Economics at a non-target, I would like to take one class called Financial Statement Analysis at night, which is one day a week and starts at 6. Is it a good idea to take it? The class is not mandatory. I just want to put the class on my resume. Will the class conflict with the internship? Or should I just bust by balls at the internship and use the time to network? I am hoping to go into ER.
Wow no do not take the class just to put it on your resume. If you absolutely need it to graduate, then yeah, but to put in on your resume?? Come on stop wasting your time.
No one looks at classes on a resume. We are not even remotely impressed by what you include, if we even bother to read it.
Thanks, I will just sit in the lectures because I am sort of interested in the topic.
Do NOT let it interrupt your internship duties in any way. It's not a strong enough reason to ask to leave early if you have to stay slightly later. Make it known at work that work is a priority.
Going from Treasury Services to ER sounds like a hell of a stretch. By all means try, though, but don't hold your breath.
As mentioned above, the class thing is an obvious drop.
Nah, it's not a stretch. As long as you network enough, demonstrate a strong interest and interview well, you'll be absolutely fine. I have to emphasize the networking though due to your going to a non-target. Drop that useless class, be proactive during the summer and get to know professionals in ER. Grab drinks, coffee, etc. Don't be concerned with showing them how much you know. Ask them smart questions and for advice, come across as a hardworking, ambitious, but humble kid and watch the interviews roll in. After that it's all about closing.
Thanks again for all the helpful advice. I decided to follow through and focus on the internship. If time allows, I will just sit in on the lecture without enrolling. My resume is decent, I can get most interviews I apply for to the local HF/VC/PE, but I could not land the offers. The BB I will we interning for is known for its mobility in the industry, this was the reason I accepted the offer compared with other options I had.
