Do you prefer black coffee? Or with milk and sugar? Seriously though, if he's willing to spend time with you after a phone chat, have some good questions focused on building the rapport and showing genuine interest in iB.
When we spoke on the phone, the conversation went about 30-35 minutes long. Goal is to build rapport and let him know that I'm hungry.
I have been working on a comp for the last few days. Do you think it would be acceptable to show him that and ask for his advice?
I'm freshman, so I don't want to come off as cocky.
I don't know it depends on your own knowledge about I-Banking. But if I had a chat with a Deautsch Bank employee, I would've asked him/her about DB's current position, and what they expect in the future.
That would be awkward
Ya, OP, do NOT ask about DB's current status. That would be a terrible decision.
Just ask things you can't easily find online: group culture, what they like about the job, things they wish they knew when they started.

"Hi, can I have a recommendation?" and that's it. Your coffee chat should not last longer than 1 minute. If the line is too long, run!!
You should try to have a conversation, not rattle off a list of questions. When you ask a question, listen to what the associate answers. Your next question should be related to the response the associate gave to your first question. This shows that you are listening and actually care what the associate has to say.
One question that I would highly suggest always asking associates is what their relationship is like with their analysts. That will give you a pretty good insight into the bank's and group's culture. If you get a wish-washy answer, run.
Just be normal.
Ask why he does his job and what he likes about it. Maybe ask him what sports team he follows...I would bet he would rather talk about that.

sounds good, best of luck with it!
Would be great if you could provide the topics you talked about or any key points that came up specific to DB.
