College Application List — Seeking Critique (High School Senior)
Hello - HS senior here looking for some comments on my current college list. I'm looking to go into consulting. I also know I'd likely be too junior for any day), and am leaning AWAY from getting a general business degree and instead getting a degree in econ, financial engineering, industrial engineering or maybe neuroscience or management. So far, my list goes as follows:UPenn Wharton (ED, binding)UPittPenn StateUMDNorthwesternUChicagoCornell (Dyson)Georgetown (for Healthcare Mgmt/Policy)I might shoot for HYPSM or some decent liberal arts colleges (Swarthmore, NESCACs, Claremont Colleges etc.) regular round, but I'm still deciding on that. I’m from the Midwest so my state schools aren’t great, but I have a 3.9 unweighted GPA at a competitive private school on the west coast and a 36 ACT.I know this may be early to think about what I want to do after college, but I'm looking to prepare myself early and try and make the best of my opportunities at my age.Would be grateful for any critiques or recommendations for my upcoming application season. Cheers.
Considering you have good stats (im assuming you also have good extracurriculars) and are interested in more than just finance, I would add schools that excel in liberal arts such as Brown, Dartmouth, Williams/Amherst (if you like those sorts of liberal arts colleges), and Columbia (if you are willing to deal with its core curriculum). Not sure about Williams/Amherst, but those 3 non-HYP ivys are big consulting targets
I actually really liked Brown and considered ED’ing there, but right now I think I’m going to ED Wharton, Dyson or Northwestern instead. My only issues with the other two are that I don’t know if I really would love going to school in NYC, and Dartmouth seems really far up, but I’ll definitely look into them as well! Thank you.
All the Ivies. Consulting firms are always on campus recruiting. Dartmouth sends like 30 to the Bain Boston office alone apparently.
Will definitely look into the Ivies — only issue is that they’re pretty difficult to get into. Hopefully I’ll get lucky.
Source on that Dartmouth stat? That's pretty insane given it's class size is like 1000
Am a Dartmouth student incoming at MBB. Can Confirm that its actually about like 20 to just Bain-Boston for full time.
Bump — anyone else able to comment? Thank you.
Solid maybe throw some west coast schools in there
Might apply to a couple of UC’s, maybe the Claremont schools, but I honestly like the East Coast a little better and would rather stay here after UG. But yes, I will certainly look into them — thank you.
Assuming you might be from Pennsylvania but always apply to best scholarship program at state school.
Additionally, add some state schools like UCB UMICH UVA NYU etc. maybe 2/4 if you’re lazy
Can’t bother checking but duke , Nd, etc. you go to a private school so consider paying for essay and tailoring help. They understand what colleges look for and do a good job of pushing you to realign how you present those aspects of yourself.
Good lick
Not from PA actually, but my state school isn’t really great so I’m applying to PA state schools as high safeties/low matches. Will definitely apply to their honors colleges, though.
I briefly considered getting a private admissions coordinator at one point, but my private school has pretty good counselling system & strong placement so I think I’ll be good.
Thank you!
