College GPA

Hello Everyone,
First of all I am fairly new to this website but I have read some great discussions and I would like to thank everyone who can and will be helpful.
My question is as follows. Currently I am a sophomore in Vanderbilt, and I transferred from engineering to arts and sciences(econ major with financial accounting and German minors) after realizing that I want to work at a consulting company. I know that GPA is really important for your resume however first year I had a 3.3 since I only took engineering classes. This year I had a 3.9. I was wondering if that would be a huge problem since it significantly reduces my cumulative GPA even though my Major GPA remains really high? Also is Vanderbilt a college where big consulting companies hire from?

Thank you

list both your Major and Cumulative GPA. You can only list your Cumulative, but you shouldn't only list your major.

I agree with this. Only listing your major GPA makes me think your cumulative one is so low you're embarrassed to put it down.

I have a follow up question? Is a CS major with a lower GPA is any more/less appealing than someone with a more related major like Econ, accounting or business with a higher GPA? Can you also answer that question from the perspective of the admissions board of a top MBA program.

Thank you
