Commute for ER
Since ER has somewhat better hours than IBD, what would be a reasonable commute time for someone in ER? Would 40 mins be considered absurd?

I fucking hate commuting, I will not be held captive by traffic.
40 minutes??? GTFO of here! On second thought, that's just 10 minutes on top of my current commute. Please proceed.
I would be alright with 40 minutes.
I did 45 minutes for about a year. Wasn't exactly enjoyable, but definitely doable depending on your senior analyst
Just note that during earnings you may have to be there at 6am or earlier, so good early AM service on your train/bus line becomes a factor.
Commuting and ER (Originally Posted: 01/28/2015)
I've seen a few posts regarding how commuting isn't possible for IB analysts. How do people in ER feel about living in one of the outer boroughs and traveling to Manhattan? I'm wondering if living in a Staten Island and taking the ferry is a good idea.
Hope you like early mornings ;)
If you can fit a cot somewhere near your desk, living on Staten Island just might work
How long is that commute?
If thats how you want to spend the only free 1h30mins of your day..
I thought the ferry was pretty quick and took you to lower Manhattan?
I wouldn't live in Staten Island, unless I lived there. Believe the posters on this board.
During your analyst years, I highly recommend living in the city. Don't underestimate how valuable the extra time will be for your overall well being. When you look back on it, shaving a few/several hours per week in commuting will be worth every incremental dollar you spent on housing.
Aren't the ER hours better?...oh crap.
