Compensation in RE Compared to IB, CO, PE, etc
I know this question has been beaten to death like a pinata, but how do first-year salaries of RE compare against other big finance jobs on Wallstreet? How do the bonuses compare? What are the opportunities for promotion like?
P.S. Kinda new to the whole Real Estate Finance Forum
Generally lower base but and similar average bonus proportionally, but also very hard to generalize as there's so many different roles: Investment Sales, Debt Capital Markets, REIB, Acquisitions, Asset Management, etc.
ex. major NE metro (NYC, Boston, DC) you're probably looking at 50-70k base w/20%-100% bonus (potentially)
Pablo is correct.
There are a wide variety of roles in real estate that all have different compensation structures, both at the early stages and at the peak of one's career, and each one compares differently to IB, CO, PE, etc. respectively.
REPE can be right in line with IB & PE or somewhat less to begin with. Development either may have a lower base but much more upside with a % of the promote or be more in line with REPE, or neither, depending on the firm. Brokers can be on a draw or straight commission or some other format.
Do some searching. There is a WSO comp database and also a national comp survey that gets published annually and almost always gets reposted here.
