remember when he ranked himself #2 all time?

what a fuckin clown. a rich kid with a bad attitude who punches old men at bars, throws dollies at buses, throws temper tantrums after losses and is always talking shit about the good old days. he could most certainly whoop my ass, but the octagon doesn't lie. never defended a belt, hasn't beat anyone relevant since Alvarez in 2016, and has been literally embarassed in every lightweight fight since then

good fucking riddance

I'm not a fan of McGregor nor do I condone what he does, but from a marketing standpoint he certainty knows how to lean into the controversial "villain" role. As a person, what he said about Dustin's wife and wanting to kill them in their sleep is abhorrent. But if all of it was done to drum up their rivalry, McGregor is playing his cards right. It's pretty obvious that he's lost a couple steps and his UFC career is in it's twilights. Yet, it seems like he's all but penciled in a rematch with Proirier (might even be a title fight if Dustin beats Charles Oliveira). His trash-talking and out of the octagon antics are annoying, but it draws in crowds. His opponents may hate him, respectfully so, but a match against McGregor is arguably must-watch PPV and a larger purse. At the end of the day, they all want the money.

marketing is one thing

punching and old man because he disliked your whisky, throwing a dolly at a bus and injuring several fighters you're not fighting, and talking about another mans wife are another thing

conor drew crowds by making fun of jeremy stephens and talking shit about nate diaz, no lines were crossed

he's beyond being the heel, he's deplorable

Controversial

Mcgregor Lol you guys are obviously new. McGregor literally came from nothing and most wouldn’t know what the UFC was if it wasn’t for him.

Don’t be quick to tarnish an athletes name when their shelf life is up, it happens to every star fighter at some point (Chuck Lidell, Anderson Silva, Rashad Evans, etc).

Son, I been an MMA fan since Fedor and Cro Cop were in their prime. McGregor has increased the popularity of the UFC, sure. But he's still a shitstain of a human being. Chuck Liddell retired from fighting to sit quietly in a corner sniffing coke. Silva is famously clowny inside of the ring but doesn't say shit outside of it. Suga is washed but again, doesn't do anything newsworthy.

Conor McGregor was literally making death threats and saying that Dustin's wife was in his DMs. How trashy can you get?

Well yeah nice guys finish last in the UFC. DC v Jones is a prime example. One is a super humble guy who obviously has a deep passion for the sport...and gets trashed nonstop. Meanwhile you have his opposite side, Jon Jones, who’s practically a fucking felon and is praised nonstop.

it makes sense why McGregor and those types are the way they are. I don’t think it’s fair to take it from his raw fighting talent which is HOF material.

Even Covington was a nobody and referred to a complete loser at ATT. He put on that whole fake act and pretty much bolstered in popularity.

aside from all that, Cro Cop is a fucking killa

the difference is this - being a sore loser and throwing temper tantrums. chuck & tito were great at shit talking, as were DC and Jones but it never crossed the lines conor crossed. conor's outside behavior is indicative of what kind of person he is. talking shit is one thing, throwing dollies and continuing to bitch after getting handily beat (one judge scored it a 10-8 round) just means you're a sore loser with more money than sense

No one is tarnishing his name, he's done that himself by continuously disrespecting his opponents to a degree far beyond fun trash talk. He's lost every fight except the one with Cowboy for the last 4-5 years (and Cowboy's lost his last 6 I think?). He is a shell of his former self, devoured by his own pride and unable to learn from his defeats like a true champion. Plus the guy literally threatened Dustin and his wife say he was going to kill them in their sleep while he was laying on the ground after the fight. I sincerely hope he's permanently banned from the sport, there's more than enough talent that he will not be missed and this kind of attitude should not be permitted under any circumstances.

This sums up the story of Conor quite nicely.

It's worse that he was allowed to hold up the division for so long when the top 5-6 guys at LW (post Khabib) are all super likeable and all seem like great dudes. Oliveira, Poirier, Gaethje, Chandler, RDA, Dariush, Holloway if you want to count him as a 155er, all humble hard working guys you'd be happy for your kids to look up to.

I don't know what "running with the Hutches" means but it sounds like fantastic slang.

Is it just me or did he sound harder to understand than normal in the run up to this fight? He has an Irish accent of course but I don't remember him being full on Mickey from Snatch in the past. Possibly in past (vs Khabib, Aldo, etc) intentionally slowing down his speech so that opponents and their fans who don't speak great English could understand him better? Or just more coke than usual this time?

SKEET SKEET MOTHERFUCKER

So he can't speak Irish even though he can barely speak English? WTF

Don’t ever go to Ireland - you won’t understand anything.

Conor really embarrassed himself with this one. Sitting on your ass threatening someone's wife after losing is not a good look. And then on top of that he's saying Dustin's win was illegitimate or whatever...all 3 judges had that round 10-8 Poirier lol. Dude is just completely washed up as a fighter. 3-4 since 2016 with 2 of the 3 coming from equally washed up Eddie Alvarez and Cowboy.

And now tweeting and quickly deleting veiled threats against Poirier's kid. What a sick POS and I used to be a fan of the guy, his tweets were probably vague enough to avoid criminal charges but hopefully they'll at least get him cut from the UFC and barred from re-entering the US (I know, not gonna happen).

It won't happen because the UFC will force a 4th fight and nobody will have a choice in the matter. From a fighting standpoint it's not an interesting match-up anymore at all. Conor is absolutely washed and has been for years. It didn't have to be this way. He just got in his head a long time ago that he can do no wrong and refused to progress as a fighter. A long time ago his confidence helped him and kept him driven. It went completely overboard and ruined his brain to the point where he thinks threatening someone's little daughter makes him look tough.

Skilled fighter, definitely elite.

His broken leg/ankle can be attributed to compartment syndrome, a side effect of anabolic steroids.  Anabolic steroids often halt or decrease bone density, and this has happened to several other UFc fighters.

His persona isn't my cup of tea, but he is self made and it sells tickets.  I don't imagine a private Connor the same at the public one, just like any of the WWE characters are not the same as their persona.
