Consultant Ding in Future?

Hello,

I am currently working as a consultant (1 year out of college) at a top restructuring consulting firm and I'm looking to get into PE. I can do all the modeling and financial analysis, however I have heard that I should go back and restart as an Ibanker not just to get into the funnel but also because I will be dinged later on in PE for not having done ibanking. Is this the latter part true?

Not quite sure what you mean by "dinged later in PE". You think you will start working in private equity and then a year in your boss will come to you and will ask you to leave because you have not done investment banking?

You can get into private equity as a consultant. Private equity takes in more bankers than consultants but there are also many more bankers trying to get into private equity. Once you are in private equity people will form their opinion based on your performance.
