Contract AML Analyst at IB BO - Move to FO?

Hi all,

I'm currently 2 months into a 6 month contract as an AML analyst with a top investment bank in Canada.

Honestly, this is my first time even working in banking and I was referred for an interview by one of the VPs. My grades are not spectacular and I come from a non-target school, if this matters for internal transfers.

I'm wondering how I could possibly move to front office. Should I finish out my contract, convert to perm, then work another few months before trying? Or first try to build rapport with some of the people in other departments? Though I'm unsure of how to go about this as I don't really interact with FO at all. I'm slightly against asking my connection again since I had asked for a referral on the premise that I'm passionate and committed to AML.

I'm also definitely up for working towards CSC (Canadian Securities Course), CFA, and MBA.

Thanks in advance for any help I can get!
