Corp dev in a roll up
Hi all,
So my career didn't get where I wanted it and I am over 30 now and have ended up working in corp dev for a healthcare roll up. Small m&a transactions in (biggest I've done is $20m), doing due diligence, vals/modelling and other aspects of the m&a process and also other corp dev work like new project investments and contracting etc.
Does anyone know where such a role can really lead? I accept I'm out of Ibanking and will never get in, plus I'm too old now anyway.
Why don't you look to make a jump to corp dev at a larger company? Corp dev/BD is not a bad place to be by any means...many people who leave IB or have gone through fldps look to move into those roles
Plenty of stuff, I worked in corp dev (healthcare) and transferred to head up ops at a VC-backed company. I've had potential exits for product development, consulting and even FP&A at companies in different industries.
@"SocratesIsMortal" What does ops consist of?
Ops at our company (software) consists of software development, back-end partnership alignment/integration, implementation, inside sales, and product dev.
Interesting. Just worried that you know it's for a smaller business (think $500mil to maybe $800 mil mkt cap) that obviously makes smaller acquisitions. I guess it's more interesting and has better exit ops than working in tax
i think you're essentially borderline on the age question when it comes to retooling with an MBA and being an associate. I think it can be done. (one person that I reached out when i first started networking said that he broke it to banking as an associate at 36 after he spent 10 years running his own ice cream and CD business lol). If you really want it, i'm sure that you will do a knock up job. However, after 30, i seriously question whether its right, from a sanity perspective, to commit to 80-100 hours a week, as I'm sure at that point you would be interested in settling down/starting a family etc.
