Corp Dev / Strategy Comp out of IB
Hey everyone,
Was curious to find out what total compensation to expect as an analyst / associate role in Corp Dev / Strategy coming out of 1 or 2 years of IB. Specifically tech I was hoping to hear.
Is $150,000 coming out of a two year IB program at a top firm unrealistic?
Thanks
Think this is highly dependent on your location.
I am in a tier 2 city and am slightly above that for a second year associate level. Should get manager level promote this year and expect to be near $200k all in.
For what it’s worth I transitioned from consulting.
Would you mind expanding a bit on your role? Corp strategy, dev or a blend? In consulting now at the undergrad role (MBB), always curious how former consultants like the transition.
Sure - although I think my situation is quite unique and may not be all that applicable.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the transition, having moved from a consulting background focusing primarily in the FIG space to the Retail industry. I report to the CFO of a $XB revenue business unit of a Fortune 200 Company, and my work is a blend of both Strat and Dev. Without getting too specific here are a few things that I have been able to work on help out with.....
It's sort of been all over the place and I am fortunate that I was able to land in the spot that I am in. I get a ton of exposure to C-level people within the company and feel (hopefully) that people trust my judgement and know that I am able to make the right calls.
One thing that I love is that I am able to point towards the things that I have worked on and say, that decision drove $XXM in top line or that choosing to not pursue a venture prevented us from spending $XXM that we never would have seen a return on. But like I mentioned before, I don't know that other companies would have this sort of flexibility where a person is able to touch so many different aspects between Strat & Dev.
Hopefully that helps though.
Yeah you're definitely on the high end for T2
After undergrad I spent two years as a Bus/Corp Dev Analyst at a portfolio company. Recently took an Associate/Manager role at another portfolio company in NYC. During interviews I was quoted $120-150K base + 20-30% bonus.
$150K all-in should be easily obtainable if you are a strong candidate.
Thats interesting, I read another thread about IB to corporate and it seemed more like 90-100k was normal in corporate after two years of banking. 150k would be great.
Base of $100K would be pretty normal.
I was in a T3/T4 city during my analyst stint. I'm guessing the associate was making $85-$95K base + 20% bonus.
Comp seems to vary significantly depending on location and company in Corp Dev
$150K is very unlikely unless you work in NY or SF, and even then may be difficult. I honestly don't see it unless you go work in tech and are getting ~$30K+ in SBC.
Would say a base of 90-110 and bonus of 20-30% is probably a good range.
Might be able to hit $150k with SBC, but either has to be a large company with very generous SBC, or a small growth company where there's a more binary worth a lot/worthless dynamic.
appreciate it
This is exactly what I saw after 2 years in IB
I work corp dev at a big tech company (just finished 2 years in banking) and make around $130-$140k all in. Personally I've had other offers and a few friends who are in similar positions and have not met anyone higher than my range (but don't know anyone at FAANG so things might be different there). In most cases I would say the range is between $110 and $130 all in; $150 seems pretty high but I guess every company is different
