Corporate Banking to Big 4

Hi all,

I recently made the shift from a corporate banking position which was client-facing and lasted 3 years to an internal finance position within a Big 4. The salary at the Big 4 is much more attractive as the company is certainly in a better shape than the bank I just left.

However, I am finding it extremely difficult to adjust to the new position. The culture is different from what I had anticipated and although it seems far healthier than my previous employer's, I don't find it nearly as thrilling as banking. In addition, I used to be dealing with clients all the time in my previous role, which was challenging but I really enjoyed it, this new Big 4 position is an internal finance one and I'm already bored silly of dealing with the same people all the time. I'm just plain bored at the new Big 4 position. You're looking at excel spreadsheets all day, calling the same stakeholders and no real adrenaline rush.

Some people can't handle client facing positions due to the pressure, but after experiencing this internal position, I can safely say I miss working with clients. Most of the time, I much preferred an appreciation email from a client than the one from an internal stakeholder.

I think I made a mistake, but I changed jobs for the money and the hope of a better environment. It turns out the job is most definitely not my cup of tea, but it's too soon to already start looking for something else.

What would you suggest I do?
