Corporate M&A Analyst - Responsibilities and Exit Ops
Hi all - I've been selectively searching for corp dev roles over the past few months and continue to come across certain positions titled as "Corporate M&A Analyst". After doing some research, I haven't been able locate much background info on these types of roles.
I've found these types of positions sometimes sit within a company's corp dev team (also depending on if the company has a dedicated team) and typically report directly to the DoF and CFO. From talking to a few recruiters, the job seems to be mostly focused on the deal close process, with potentially a bit of strategy and sourcing mixed in as well. A couple of these positions were newly created roles given the companies are presumably gearing up to make multiple acquisitions.
A bit of background on myself, I have two years of B4 Transaction Service experience following a short stint in audit coming out of college. Wish I wasn't lazy in college and had started mapping out my career at a earlier age but alas here we are. Also potentially relevant: I have a solid GMAT score in my back pocket so b-school is something I'm going to look at in another year or two. Long term goal would probably be a Corp Dev or Corp Strategy role within a F500 Tech company.
Was wondering if anyone on here had any further knowledge on these types of positions? (Comp, promo path, responsibilities, exit ops, ect.) Any guidance/insight would be much appreciated.
Hi armadill00, whoops, looks like nobody chimed in here.... maybe one of these discussions below is relevant:
Hope that helps.
Mediocre comp, mediocre progression and mediocre exit opps (hard to join other buy side roles). best thing is the lifestyle which is why I joined but given the former factors I am kind of regretting, now not too sure what to do
work experience is good, deal process from start to end, modelling opportunities, conducting and managing dd process, negotiate SPA, raise funding etc but recruiters are less weary of it
Thanks, appreciate the feedback. Sole responsibility for many of those areas seems very appealing from a personal development perspective but definitely hit my concern on the head.
In terms of career development, I'm concerned how the role would be perceived a year or two down the line by recruiters. I'm also weary that a company may only need this role during an acquisitive period and fear that later on it may not lead to a corp dev or even FP&A manager role.
