Very much dependent on the CVC. TBH the perception of CVC as fair weather money is no longer widely held: there are some exceptional firms out there (GV, Goldman Growth, etc).
You might even be able to move to a typical VC without an MBA - provided the CVC is good and you get proper deal experience.
Which do you think is easier? A transition to a traditional VC with Operational VC experience in your target sector or having Financial skills in VC such as modeling etc but really no industry knowledge other than the financial aspects of it?
I assume by operational VC - you mean an investment role with significant operational support for portfolio co.
I tend to think that industry expertise is king and tbh VC modelling etc is comparatively light. Being able to really engage with founders and offer genuine market insight is a real differentiator in an industry with a lot of generalists. One of the most common complaints you hear about VCs is that they have a very superficial domain understanding....
