Course Review: FMVA by Corporate Finance Institute.
Hey folks!
I have been trying to understand – how to acquire the ‘pro’ modeling skills and have a certificate to show for the same as I start out my internship hunting process. I am trying to wrap my head around the FMVA course offered by CFI. I think the course is worth the money because:
a. It seems to be well structured, covering not just modeling but also a good amount of introductory finance.
b. It has a monthly payment option available which just makes the payments more tolerable.
c. They also have a good amount of specializations, including M&A, LBO and Strategy modeling.
d. They give you perpetual access to the course material and the community (although, I’ve no clue about how frequent the course updates are).
I would be glad if the ‘pros’ can give their takes on the course in terms of:
i. Will the course give the attendee enough knowledge in modeling to get started in asset management (investment research) or IB without any hiccups?
ii. Does the course command any brand equity amongst North American recruiters?
iii. What are some alternatives to the course, assuming they are in the same ballpark of $500-$600 and are equally comprehensive in terms of the curriculum?
Feel free to thrash the course if you have legitimate logic behind it. Waiting to get enlightened!
P.S. I am also a CFA L1 candidate and a recent business administration graduate; assume no hard-core modeling skills whatsoever.
