COVID Vaccine

Pfizer just announced that its COVID vaccine is over 90% and, as a result, bears are on suicide watch right now. Dow hit intraday record, airlines to the moon, and WFH stocks like Zoom getting their assholes ripped out. What's your opinion on this? Is this the silver bullet we've been waiting for that will set us on track to normal again? Is the timing just a little too convenient (right after Joe Biden essentially declared winner)? Will you personally be getting the vaccine once it comes out? Let's hear your thoughts

The timing is uncanny! I'm guessing they were going to announce either way after the election, but this one is hilarious. I heard the parameters changed pretty significantly in the weeks leading up to the election as far as how many people they wanted to get COVID, started at ~36 and moved to ~90. Just skimmed through the article discussing it, but there were quotes from those involved (read: PFE CEO etc).

This is yet another reason I do NOT want a recount or any kind of validation of the election. Biden can have it if the senate stays R (no new taxes, no other harmful legislation to the economy) and everyone chills out and starts being more reasonable about COVID. I think that we are already seeing that. The news didn't mention a word about mass gatherings and celebrations of tens of thousands of people this weekend, likely hundreds of thousands. Mere weeks ago they were freaking out about church congregations of 10 people.

After Biden was declared the winner on Saturday, the next 3 Covid headlines I saw were something to the effect of 1) Study suggests concerts aren't going to be superspreader events; 2) 500 academics say that 2nd wave fears are overblown/out of context; 3) Pfizer releases news that their vaccine looks very promising and may be available soon.

Less than 48 hours after Biden was declared the winner.

This is what I've said going back to April--the media would be engaged in endless panic porn, designed to make everyone as afraid as possible and as miserable as possible leading up to the election, and then afterward would start reporting Covid in a more balanced fashion, showing that Covid is serious but it's not the Black Death. Why? Because members of the media want their normal lives back, too, but most of the media and Big Tech saw it as their moral duty to defeat Trump, even if it meant destroying their own societies and leading people to suicide and drug abuse as a consequence. This has always been a religious battle for them, and the ends justified the means.

I remember your comment exactly. It was in response to @andylouis who was surprised that someone had mentioned that. I have to admit that at the time when I read what you wrote, I thought you were a bit on the edge, but here we are in November.

Lol - and for us saying this all along, we were reprimanded for "putting profits over lives".

The news sources I've read in the last week have talked about how cases are at an all-time high and death spikes are certain to follow in 1-2 weeks.

Every source I've read about the Pfizer vaccine talks about the extreme difficulty in distribution due to the cold storage requirement of this specific vaccine.

You are being purposefully selective.

I'm a die hard Trump fan

No you're not.  A few weeks ago you were crying "MAGA, KAG 2020!" when Trump seemingly had the upper hand electrifying large crowds. Now Trump is about to lose, but wanting an audit of the votes and the counting process and you've turned away from him instead sticking to Biden to usher in "a new era of peace with no COVID." You're the sort of guy who would be my friend when I'm the top bucket analyst, but then quit talking to me when I get laid off

If anyone on WSO who runs their mouth about vaccine development understood anything about clinical trials, they’d understand how interim analyses are planned and designed and how pharma companies don’t just go picking out data at their whimsy. They very well could have released data today that they’d failed to meet targeted outcomes and your Peloton and Zoom stocks could’ve mooned instead. Seriously, shut the fuck up and go slam on your Bloomberg keyboard, thx

The COVID narrative will turn quicker than I expected. I thought after inauguration even if the case counts were high the media and gvnt would be highlighting the declining infection:fatality ratio (this is not case:fatality). I think we are going to see a quick turnaround in COVID rhetoric which is a net positive for those of us who just want to eat at a restaurant or grab a drink or something. Obviously mass celebration/protests etc are allowed and welcomed, but will probably be a while before we are in a baseball stadium.

We all know where this is headed. One day at a time. As it stands now we will likely not be paying 60% income tax, COVID is over, and things should get more positive. No more burning down of cities, no more looting (for now). One day at a time...We just needed R to hold senate, they also picked up a bunch of house seats as well.

Ugh that was SO one week ago. It was NOT safe under president Drumpf, but PRESIDENT JOE is a different story. He will tame big pharma! Yaaaaassss!!! Vaccine up, masks DOWN!

I am a democrat but a vaccine being manufactured in under less than a year to fight a disease that began to explode in December last year is suspect. I believe in science but the volunteers can take one for the team and see if there are any side effects.

I suggest you go inform yourself about where these companies got the information to develop the COVID vaccine. It did not just come from thin air. Surprised to even see comments like this 8 months in...
