CPA or 3 BS Degrees (BSBA, BSA,BSIS)
So I have an interesting general question for this forum...
Originally I wanted to be an investment analyst. However a chronic illness I have had since 16 has come to the point where I no longer believe there will be a cure (I am only 24 yrs old by the way)...I now have to pick a career that is the most versatile, flexible, and may involve work from home opportunities. Ideally I still want to work with "crunching numbers" to a certain extent...At the moment I have a BSBA-Finance degree. I graduated last may and landed a great job at Wells Fargo Advisors...However, due to another mysterious health condition (that was just recently successfully diagnosed and treated)I was forced to resign from that position. At the moment my unique financial situation has allowed me only two more semesters of student loans. So which credential(s) would offer the most career versatility, flexibility, and possible work from home opportunities?:
1) Is it to finish off my studies with the required coursework to sit for the CPA and work public accounting for a small firm...and enjoy job security within the accounting/finance/corporate world.
(OR)
2) Finish off not only with a BSBA-Finance but also a BS in Accounting and a BS in Information Systems...and enjoy ridiculous entry level and career flexibility...
This should be a VERY interesting discussion. I appreciate any input and possible debate. Thank you.
If working from home is your primary concern I would urge you to look into the IT field (or anything computer related). With the exception of Yahoo (who is working to remove their work from home policy) most tech companies, or tech departments within other industries, often allow you to remote in. Maybe programming or design as opposed to on-site tech support. If you go the CPA route you're looking at jobs that all revolve around deadlines and sick days are not permitted at certain times of the year. This goes for Audit, Tax, Advisory, FP&A at a F500 later on etc.
Thank you for your feedback Cookies. IT's flexibility was a big factor in the consideration of the 3 BS degree formula. However, I don't know if this combination would be enough to almost guarantee job security that has a very decent income... With the CPA I will know that I at least have that factor going for me. I also will always be able to do my own CPA work on the side or even have my own CPA firm... But the IT does indeed offer more work at home opportunities plus easy means to online entrepreneurship businesses opportunities. And in going that route I will still get a BS in Accounting...
Also, does anyone else see "upload avatar" as my avatar instead of Bill Murray? wtf? SEE DUDE, this is why working in IT is so awesome. Braverman - let this guy prove himself then hire him.
You're in the clear my friend. Your avatar still gleams of Bill Murray pointing to me with that smirk of his as I glance on the avatar..LOL
