Crafting my story in ER

Hello all--

Ever since I joined my school's student managed fund I have been determined to get into ER. This lead me to spend the last semester of my college preparing for CFA Level I which I passed this June; So I graduated last spring and already had a job at a large PWM shop lined up right out of school. After 6 months of only landing one ER interview I was approached about an analyst job in REPE and accepted that to dodge the possibility of getting stuck in PWM as my first job was not building many skills. I still have my sights set on ER so I am wondering how to go about applying back in the industry in the near future.

Is it reasonable to say 1st job was just a placeholder and I did not feel advancement-> gave real estate a try -> realize my heart was in equity research (My pre graduate internship experiences were in ER)

No I would not use place holder. I'm a litter behind my journey (current sophomore) but I was pretty set on PWM because I thought it was more so focused on ER and portfolio management as opposed to meeting clients needs.

I wouldn't get asked that because there'd never be a scenario where it would be relevant to bring up but if I were you I'd just tell the truth.
