Credit Analyst Into Commercial Real Estate
I've been in the finance industry for a little over 3 years and looking to move into commercial real estate. In high school I've always wanted to be in the business, but when I graduated the real estate market was so bad that I went to college for finance. Upon graduation I was so consumed with the theories and processes that I learned in the classroom in regards to Wall Street and finance that I got an analyst job in portfolio management.
Now that I am at a crossroads in my career I want to get back to my roots. I'd like to get back on track to where I wanted to be. I've applied to some credit analyst positions to build a solid foundation for my career, but haven't gotten any job offers. Ultimately I'd like to be in a capital markets division of a large real estate firm so i'm seeking advice from any individuals in the space.
Thank you!
A fair amount of the larger REPE shops hire out of the I-Banks. My suggestion would be to continue to network within the industry, as is often advised on this board. Most folks that I've come across are very receptive to meeting and sharing contacts/advice. Getting a foot in the door is the first step. Much easier to move into your "dream job" once you've solidified yourself within a firm/industry.
