Credit Analyst Training Program

Currently I am 23 graduated May '11 with degree in Econ/Finance and will get my MBA Aug '12 (in 2 months and have a 3.45). I am in the running to get in the Credit Analyst Training Program and was wondering what I could expect or look forward to if I got it?

Also I was curious if anyone worked as Commercial Credit Analyst and had any thoughts or opinions on it the position in general. Or if anyone was in a training program.

Just tryin get some advice before the interview next Friday.

Thanks

haha I feel like thats a good way to get expierence and solid out of school training... What would you suggest, I really enjoy Finance personally

Chonch,

Nothing is ever free in banking lol. Im just bustin your balls. Maybe a few hundred tho could motivate me to find all the interview questions from my program. My program was pretty competitive as well.

Salary is about at market, but once you are done the program expect to be making some dough. Keep in mind these programs are designed to cultivate the next level of executives. They will springboard you to a senior position if you stick with them.

I don't know for sure but I feel like it would take someone WHILE to move up in a commercial bank, especially with these banks facing such low margins right now. It might mean lots of years being underpaid for what you think your worth; might pay off in the long run though if you can stick with it. But what do I know

Thanks I appreciate the advice/comments.

Now I wait until Friday to see how it goes...

You got your mba to become a commercial credit analyst? That's rough. Not sure what your long term plans are, but getting a credit analyst gig can set you up for an IB analyst gig. Since you've already gotten your mba you'll have not shot at that.

Oh, the job is boring and monotonous, but it beats being unemployed.

@txjustin - I got my MBA right away because it was a 1 year program and I got a full ride. That and I figured it would help me in the job search. The Commercial Credit Analyst position is jsut something I was looking at for my first "REAL" job to gain some expierence. But becoming an IB analyst would be nice.

That seems to be my biggest problem I have an MBA but not too much real wolrd expierence besides working in TD Bank for 2 years as a Customer Service Rep. That is how I got the opportuinty for this program becasue I ahve a few connections.

Have any advice on what I could look to potentially begin my career?? I would love to get into Black Rock or a company along those lines, but everything I seem to find either is paying 35-40K or says 3-5 years expierence. Do some companies consider less expierence to those with MBAs?

Disclaimer: I am not IBD and have never been, nor want to work in IBD.

I do know about IBD nonetheless. It is going to be almost impossible to break into IBD as an analyst. Not sure where you did your MBA, but you might wanna network with some of the alumns.

Are you targeting IBD? If not then don't worry about it.

Also, don't worry about the 3-5 year stuff. Apply/network to those positions anyway.

Chonch,

What company is this position for? Some commercial credit analyst positions can easily allow you to break into IBD, others are not that great. It makes a big difference for what company you are working for. PM me if you need some advice.

Yes, pre MBA. I'll let you take over as I'm not in IBD.

This position is for TD Bank.

Any thoughts or comments (good or bad) on TD?

@txjustin I did my MBA at Widener University, same place I received my undergrad. I graduated in May '11 with the Bachelors and started my MBA in Aug '11. I will definitively look at Linked In and such to find some Alumns I can get in contact with.

As for IBD, i am not 100% sure where I would like to end up to be honest. That is why I was looking for suggestions and opinions because this is the very beginning of my career. I do know however that I want to get my foot in the door and begin gaining experience to help me in 3-5 years when I can really choose and not have to "settle" because I do not have experience or too large of a network
