Credit Ratings Agency Recruiting Timelines
For starters, a quick intro:
-Rising senior at a small but decently ranked non-target LAC in the South
-Finance and Econ double major, 3.7 GPA
-Taking CFA L1 in December
-Soph. Internship in Public Policy and Econ Research
-Junior Internship at a mid-sized commercial bank ($30bb in assets). Fairly specialized role mostly doing in-house research similar to what the CRAs do
-Good ECs: leadership position in SMIF, Won regional case competition last year
My long-term goal is to break into ER or CR. I have a couple of really good connections at a BB in research and plan on going through FT ER recruiting this year. However, as a back-up, I plan on trying to get a job at a CRA. Fitch, Moody's, and S&P all have programs geared towards entry-level candidates, and I was wondering if anyone here could shed some light on the recruiting timelines for the CRAs. Also, assuming a decent amount of networking, how competitive do you think I will be? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

very interested, someone help OP. Can ya throw in the timeline for commercial banking too?
My understanding of the recruiting process for CB is:
Big Banks (JPM, BAC, WFC)- Starts in late August/Early Sept. and goes through October.
Regional/Second Tier (BB&T, BNY Mellon, US Bank, Union, PNC)- similiar timeline to the big banks, perhaps a little bit later.
Small banks- year round.
FD: this is coming from a CB intern who only has specific knowledge on one of the mentioned T1s and one T2 bank.
Nice! Thanks man.
They recruit all year round. I interviewed with Moody's and Fitch in college and that's what the HR claimed. At the time Fitch was expanding and hiring like crazy. I got offers for SA from both firms but turned them down for an IB role. Best of luck!
FT Recruiting season at The 3 CRA (Originally Posted: 02/13/2015)
Hi,
This is questions
Do you know when is FT recruiting for the 3 CRA (more specifically associate analyst 3 at Moodys)? I heard that it is during march. Can anyone confirm this?
Will appreciate any insight on this topic/ interview process
I actually just started working at a CRA about a month ago. It depends on the group and the CRA you are attempting to get a job at.
Many positions are filled based on demand. The timing can vary greatly depending on need. Certain groups will have spots open and try to fill them throughout the year.
Your best bet is to just regularly check sites like Indeed.com or LinkedIn for any job openings that are available.
Hi, thank you for your response. Can you share your job application, and interview process with me and other present/future monkeys that will be searching for this information.
The interview process for me involved many skype interviews but it probably depends on the CRA and the group you are applying to. I had to take an excel assessment and write a one page analysis on a mock company.
The interview process, for me at least, really was not that hard or technical. You just need to explain why you want to work for a CRA and what your interests are.
