CS Cash Equity Sales vs GS Finance (Risk)
A friend of mine is trying to decide between 2 offers. He has no idea what he wants to do. He likes the markets and finance but not sure what department he wants to be in. We interned in ibanking together but I'm pretty sure he hated that
Neither are technically banking. Does he want to have a customer facing role?
Hi, I think he is indifferent.. he's the type that likes to kick back and have some beers or go to the gym at night. Personally I think he is very likeable and will do well in sales. Last time i talked to him he was thinking about taking GS for "the name"
bump any help?
Look does he want a lower-intensity, less "market-oriented" role.... or does he want a front-line, stress-ridden, client-facing, ear to the street type of role. It shouldn't be that hard seeing as these roles are completely different.
Risk has better hours than Sales and is more of a 'stable' job. I would really just push him to do something he really feels comfortable doing.
Thanks. Curious does name/ prestige of GS have anything to do with the decision?
Well if you're going to be a prestige whore... If you tell someone (who knows about finance) that you are on Credit Suisse's Equity Sales desk..... by-and-large they will be far more impressed with your CS job than if you say you're in the Risk department of Goldman Sachs.
